For a long time the Korean scientific community was hesitant about engaging with creationists for fear of giving the movement more credence. However, silence is no any longer an option.

The STR has been campaigning to eliminate content from textbooks that explain evolution, including the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestral bird's ancestor. This is only one aspect of the development paradigm's evolution.

What is Evolution?

The theory of evolution is a branch of science that explains the evolution of genetic characteristics over time. The theory is based on fact that living things adapt to their environment which can result in changes in genes or even complete genomes. These changes can, over generations result in the development of new species. The predominant theory of evolution is called natural selection, which explains the process by which those with favorable characteristics live and reproduce more frequently than those with disadvantages. This variation in reproduction could, over time, lead to the development and emergence of new species.

The term "evolution" comes from the Latin word"evolution" which means unrolling or revealing. However, the concept has had a variety of meanings since it took form in the sciences and in other fields. Some early evolutionists, like Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather) believed that existing species evolved into new species in a predetermined fashion. The term transmutation was coined by the Lamarck's disciple, embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire to describe this notion. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, criticized the idea of evolution, and borrowed the term from Geoffroy's student.

More recently, evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process when living creatures develop characteristics that improve their chances of survival or ability to produce offspring. Over time, genetic variability can cause a population acquire new physical characteristics or biological functions. The shift in gene frequency is known as natural selection and is the primary driver behind evolutionary changes. Other changes that aren't genetic, such as an increase in muscle mass from exercise or diet, can't be considered to be evolution since they don't pass on to future generations.

Despite the fact that evolution has withstood the test of time and a multitude of scientific tests Creationists have taken advantage of the idea that the theory is controversial and argue that it shouldn't be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists have had a few wins in their efforts to eliminate evolution from textbooks for high school and have also gotten rid of any references to the evolutionary roots of humans and the Archaeopteryx feathered dinosaur that is thought to be an ancestor of birds.

Why is Evolution Important to Humanity?

Evolution explains how Earth and all its living species came to be. It is also a fundamental part of biology, and aids scientists to understand how living organisms work and develop. Evolution also shows how different species are interconnected. Scientists study evolution to better understand nature and make useful discoveries like new medicines.

It has been rigorously examined and confirmed for many years. Many people, including religious leaders, believe in the scientific theory of evolution. It is essential to remember that evolutionary biology isn't in interfere with religious beliefs since it only focuses on physical objects, events and processes.

In reality many religious individuals have discovered ways to reconcile their beliefs with the theory of evolution. For example, some Christians believe that God created the world through evolution and that humans have an ancestral connection with other animals.

It is important that science educators advocate for the teaching of evolution. Unfortunately, in some countries around the world the anti-evolution movement is growing. In the United States some states have taken measures to restrict teaching evolution. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC) is pushing for textbooks to include content on the evolutionary history of horses and their ancestral avian species Archaeopteryx.

It is crucial to keep in mind that the evidence in favor of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a wide range of sources, such as fossils, genetic studies and the behavior of living organisms. Other scientists independently verify the evidence.

The majority of scientists supports the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this support are diverse. Scientists study evolution in order to discover practical solutions such as developing new medicines, while others do so to improve the quality of animal and plant species, usually for the benefit humans. Some are simply curious, while others have a deep faith in God and seek to know how the universe functions.

What is Creationism?

Creationists believe that God created everything in the universe. They also believe that the Bible is God's word and should be believed to be true. Many creationists are Christians However, not all. Creationists are typically divided into two categories: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists.

The most popular type of creationist is the YEC.  evolutionkr  believe that God created the universe exactly in the manner described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the creation's six days is true, and that the universe and life on Earth was created only recently.

OECs are not as well-known However, they are just as committed to their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe as well as Earth are billions-of-years old and believe that evolution is a lie.

Both types of creationism reject that scientific principles such as natural selection and biogenesis can explain how life came to be on Earth. They argue that evolution is not possible because it requires an extraordinary event, and that the founders of modern science eschewed miracles for fear that they would lose credibility.

Some creationists accept both naturalistic evolution and special creation, and refer to their position "theistic evolution." It is sometimes known as "continuous creationism" or "evolution from created kinds." The theory suggests that God creates species from scratch and allows them to evolve over time. Eventually these evolutionary changes will create new species that are like the original ones.

Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the universe in one event called the Great Flood. They believe that all species were created at the same moment and that they gradually evolved. They reject the idea of abiogenesis and assert that self-replicating living cannot come from non-living matter.

In general, the creationists oppose teaching evolution in schools. Numerous professional organizations, such as the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education endorse this view, as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Some academic institutions and scientists are however more flexible and permit both creationism and evolution to be included in their curricula.

What is Creationism in Korea?

When people think of creationism, they often think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolutionist group. The publishers of textbooks for high school students have recently announced that they will eliminate references to evolution from their editions. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body which is an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR), has led this campaign. STR has won its first victory in taking away examples of the evolution of the horse and an avian ancestor called the Archeopteryx in textbooks. The next step is to remove portions of Darwin's notorious finch-research as well as on human evolution.

STR claims to have the backing of 4,000 families and members. Its aim is to root out what it sees as the "atheist materialism" that paints an unhopeful worldview for students. It also aims at countering the influence of American Creationists across the country. A survey of students in biology revealed that a majority of them didn't believe in evolution. The reasons for this are not clear, but may include religious beliefs or the absence of full-time creation scientists across the country.

The KACR has accomplished a lot through its seminars and lectures. It publishes a bimonthly magazine, Creation, and has published books. Among these is a textbook on the natural sciences with a creationist viewpoint, which has sparked interest among college students. In 1991, a professor together with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught in the present.

On August 7 and 8 in 1993, the same day that the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six foreign lecturers including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin addressed a crowd of more than a thousand. KACR members and KACR have also presented lectures on creation science in prestigious seminaries. KACR is planning to create a Creation Science Education Center.
